Pope Francis Appoints the 13th Bishop of Richmond

With great joy, the Diocese of Richmond announces the Holy Father, Pope Francis, appointed the Most Reverend Barry C. Knestout, Auxiliary Bishop of the Archdiocese of Washington, as the 13th Bishop of Richmond.

Bishop-designate Knestout and Monsignor Mark Richard Lane, Diocesan Administrator, will hold a 10 a.m. press conference today in the Kelly Room at the Pastoral Center.

Pastoral Center employees are welcome to attend the press conference. The McGill Room will also serve as an overflow area for employees. Following the press conference, Pastoral Center employees are invited to a reception in the cafeteria to meet our new bishop. Bishop-designate Knestout will celebrate Mass in the Pastoral Center Chapel at noon.

The Mass of Installation for Bishop-designate Knestout will be celebrated at 2 p.m. Jan. 12, 2018, at the Cathedral of the Sacred Heart in Richmond.
