Sometimes the topic of my weekly email simply falls into my lap. If I’m being literal, I could be talking about my dog, Moose, but today I’m referring to an email I received on Thursday from Donna Henry, Principal at Portsmouth Catholic Regional School, with this picture.
PCRS was the top vote-getter in a contest run by a Norfolk law firm, Cooper Hurley. Donna and her team successfully mobilized the school’s supporters from far and wide to vote, and as you can see, it paid off. Not only did PCRS receive some helpful funding, it also was featured on a local morning news show.
Speaking of good press, another Catholic school has recently been in the news, locally and even nationally! Here is a blurb about St. Mary’s Catholic School in Richmond from USA Today:
You can read more about it on the school’s website: https://www.saintmary.org/moon-shot
Did you catch the part that said St. Mary’s is one of two middle schools in the world to be selected? Wow!
Now, you might be thinking, I bet there are good things going on at the 28 other Catholic schools in our Diocese, and you would be correct. You also might be thinking, gee, I would really like to support all that goodness. One effective way to do that is through the tax credit program administered through the McMahon Parater Scholarship Foundation. It seems that we can never explain this program enough – how you get a 65% Va. State tax credit plus a deduction — so you can read an explanation here: FAQ EISTC Forms
If that information has piqued your interest, I would love to tell you more, so please email me about it. Or maybe you knew about it, and this has reminded you to participate again…you can access the forms above and send them in!
At any rate, it is always refreshing and inspiring to read good news, and this week I didn’t have to look very hard to find it.
God Bless,
Margaret
