Intentional Giving for the Future of Faith
Your generosity can address today’s needs and fortify the future of parishes, schools, and ministries you care about. Endowment funds and donor-advised funds offer faithful, strategic ways for you to guide your giving for years to come and beyond your lifetime.
Endowment Funds: A Gift that Lives On
Endowment funds established through the Catholic Community Foundation are excellent vehicles for donors wishing to provide long-term support for parishes, schools, and ministries in the Diocese of Richmond. When you set up a new endowment, your original gift is invested and preserved, and income earned on the investment is available each year for the beneficiary to access, providing a permanent stream of revenue.
Since our founding, we have worked with Catholic organizations, parishes, and schools to invest their savings and create additional income streams. Our current funds include various Catholic school endowments, fuel and hunger ministries, seminarian support, Catholic campus ministries, and so much more. Explore our current endowments and reach out to us for support in finding the right one for your goals.
FAQs About Endowments
Setting up an endowment provides direct benefits to donors.
First, it sustains charitable giving in perpetuity, allowing donors to make a lasting impact on the causes they care about. Second, it provides an immediate tax deduction in the year your gift is made and can reduce capital gains tax when you donate appreciated assets.
By working with the Catholic Community Foundation, donors can also be assured that their gifts are invested responsibly and in alignment with Catholic teaching. All investments through the CCF are in agreement with the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops’ Socially Responsible Investment Guidelines.
Donors must make a minimum gift of $25,000 over five years to start an endowment. Parishes, ministries, and schools have a $5,000 minimum.
The CCF team is here to help! We will work with you to find an existing endowment fund that supports a cause close to your heart.
If you don’t know where to start, we are here to support you from the very beginning as well. Our philanthropy advisors are experienced with connecting donors to ministry, parish, or school leaders to learn more about where they need support and where your generosity could make the most impact.
Donor Advised Funds: Simplified Giving
A donor-advised fund is a flexible giving option that offers immediate tax benefits and allows donors to support numerous causes they care about through grant recommendations over time.
Your original gift is invested, and the original gift and all earnings then act as a “charitable checking account” you can draw from to make donations to various organizations. Our team handles all administrative functions, making giving easy.
FAQs About Donor Advised Funds
Donor-advised funds offer considerable benefits for donors who want flexibility and support in their charitable giving.
In the year the DAF is opened, you can receive immediate tax benefits, and if you donate appreciated assets, you can also reduce capital gains tax. Aside from tax benefits, DAFs simplify giving for donors, since the Catholic Community Foundation handles all administrative tasks for giving from the fund.
All Catholic Community Foundation funds are managed by our Board of Directors’ Investment Committee, in partnership with the Diocesan Finance Council. Greystone Financial Services serves as the custodian and consultant for the Foundation’s investment portfolio.
You can make a gift to any charitable organization. However, at least 50 percent of your total giving must go to Catholic organizations approved by the Diocese of Richmond.
